CacheOutfitters.com Heads Outdoors

June 3rd, 2009

Cache Outfitters’ anniversary is fast approaching and once again, exciting changes are on the way. We’ve grown our shop to include some of the best names in preparedness related products, tools from Gerber and Leatherman, flashlights and power sources from Freeplay and Streamlight, water filters from Katadyn… the list goes on.

That’s the idea about the changes we have coming up at CacheOutfitters.com… our brands read like a checklist for a deep woods hike, or an adventurous paddle down an unfamiliar river. We love the outdoors and know our customers do too. And with that, we want to bring you even more outdoor gear from the best brands in the business. Check back often to see what our changes bring, better yet… sign up for our mailing list (no spam… promise!) and get special offers and pre-sale alerts for savings.

As for JustPrepare.com… we’re undecided on how long our blog will go on. CacheOutfitters.com will still carry emergency preparedness products so this blog will remain relevant but updates may slow as our focus changes. We’ll be here to answer your questions and respond to email!

“Right at Your Door” Hits Preparedness Topics

April 6th, 2009

If you’re in the mood for an above average suspense/thriller flick that revolves around terrorist attacks, emergency preparedness and attack aftermath, check out Right at Your Door (2006).

This is definitely not a feel good flick, as it deals with a frightening subject in a very realistic way (blood, language, distressing subject matter). While the plot stretches in a few areas, the overall tone is rather believable.

Basic plot (no spoiler) -

An out of work musician sees his wife off to a normal day at work only to learn of apparent terrorist attacks in downtown Los Angeles shortly after she leaves. He attempts to head out to find her after several unsuccessful calls but is turned back by traffic and police activity. Once home, he learns of “toxic” danger in the ash from the fires caused by the attacks and begins to seal his home according to directions heard on his radio.

I’ll stop there to avoid giving away too much…

While there are some obvious problems in this movie, I found the pace - especially in the beginning and again in the last 20 minutes - to be entertaining. Another interesting aspect of this movie was the depiction of communication network breakdown, emergency news and information and how local news differed from what was being reported in other areas of the country.
